Spin to animate: Creating a zoetrope
Did you know that moving pictures existed before cinema?
In this workshop, we will discover one of the first devices used in animated cinema: the zoetrope. Using a sequence of 12 frames, we will design a short animation that will come to life when the device is spun.
We will work on sequential drawing, rhythm and continuity, understanding how animation existed before cinema as we know it today. And at the end, we can take it home with us.
A creative experience to draw, experiment and see how your illustrations... start to move!
Paper Cinético
After a long career teaching film and a deep love for paper, Paper Cinético was born, a workshop project that explores the origins of cinema through play, creation, and experimentation.
We love cardboard boxes, sheets of paper and all their possibilities. Because everything that paper can contain is yet to be written. They are fascinated by transforming the two-dimensionality of a sheet of paper into a three-dimensional object and discovering that it can also convey movement. Paper and cinema: a perfect combination.
Paper Cinético has participated in various film festivals, bringing pre-cinema, paper and animation to audiences of all ages, such as Cine para cuidar la tierra, Chantada (2019), Pontecoqueta, Pontevedra (2019), Primavera del Cine, Vigo (2021, 2022), Cineuropa, Santiago de Compostela (2021), Nadal de cine, Soutomaior (2022), Lav.mov, Vedra (2022), FIC Bueu (2023) and Cine Pedal, Nigrán (2024).
